| About the Author |
Ride with the 10th from Wilson's Creek to Pea Ridge to Vicksburg. The
Meridian Campaign, Brice's Crossroads, to Westport. On to Mine Creek and
Newtonia, and finally through Alabama to Georgia and Macon. At times, the
10th Missouri Cavalry was "reported" to be everywhere and were brigaded with
the 3rd and 4th Iowa Cavalry through most of the war. The most notable person
who served from the 10th Missouri Cavalry was Lt. Col. William Frederick "Fred" Benteen. He would later gain his name in history at Little Big Horn and Custer's last stand. The book is full of official documentation and includes roster's of all the men who served in the 9th and the 10th Missouri Cavalry, as well as partial rosters of Bowen's Battalion (Ist Missouri Cavalry Battalion) and the 28th Missouri Infantry. Bowen's Battalion served as bodyguards/escorts to Gen. Curtis at Pea Ridge, and Company C of the 10th Missouri Cavalry were escorts to Gen. Blair during the Vicksburg Campaign. The book (636 pgs.) gives a complete history of the 10th, as well as a brief history of events in Missouri throughout the Civil War and includes graphics of some of the personalities involved with the 10th. Little known facts of the Civil War involving the 10th: On August 10th of 1863, Lt. Col. William D. Bowen shot and killed his superior officer, Col. Florence M. Cornyn, at Corinth, Mississippi, exactly two years to the day that both had fought at Wilson's Creek. Book Reviews: Civil War Book Review
